On impulse (like I do anything any other way!) I bought this book called 642 Things to Write About by The San Francisco Writers' Grotto and have been writing in it before I go to sleep at night. Because this is a book blog, and basically every reader I've known has at one point in their life wanted to be a writer, I thought it would be fun sharing my responses to the writing prompts and wanted to see what you guys would have written. So feel free to comment with your responses and let's get creative!
Day #1
Q: What can happen in a second?
A: You exhale. Fat raindrops fall from heavy clouds during an unanticipated summer rain. You're afraid to breath until the next second when she says two words: "I do".
Day #2:
Q: The worst Thanksgiving dish you ever had.
A: The crimson slices came out of the can and my mouth watered in anticipation of the tart taste of cranberries. I saved room beside the turkey, a sprinkle of salt to keep it moist. When I dished myself a generous helping of gelatinous manna, some of the liquid seeped into my mashed potatoes. I practically danced to my seat, anxious to taste the dessert that is unbelievably served with dinner. My fork trembled as I excitedly scooped a gluttonous heaping toward my mouth, and as the side dish met my tongue it was immediately rejected and unceremoniously spit back onto my plate on top of the green bean casserole. Ugh, beets!
Day #3:
Q: A houseplant is dying. Tell it why it needs to live.
A: Ah, crap man. I know. I should have caught it earlier, but hindsight is 20/20, right? I should have noticed when your leaves were turning brown and dry and the soil below you turned light with want of nurturing. But I'm here now to tell you that I need you. I need you. You are not only nice to look at, but you literally give me air to breathe. Com back to me and I swear I will be better. I will water you every day and prune the bad from you until only your true, healthy, beautiful self remains.
So there you go! I hope my responses inspire you (or make you feel better about your own writing!) I'll keep posting as I progress through the book with my own responses.
Also, if you are already a writer and would like me to post some of your work, I'd be more than happy to share it here! Just send me a message to let me know.
