"The thing with kids is, if they want to grab for the gold ring, you have to let them do it, and not say anything. If they fall off, they fall off, but it is bad to say anything to them.” ― J.D. Salinger, The Catcher In The Rye

BOOK CLUB: Let's Vote! December Book of the Month

December 4, 2015 Heather Ratliff

With the end of the year coming up fast, I realize that I need to read 7 more books before then end of the year for my Goodreads challenge.  The problem is someone needs to pry "S." out of my fingers because I know it's going to be a long read and that is all I really want to do.  HOWEVER, I did not forget about Book Club.  :)

I am usually uninspired when it comes to holiday themed books (and movies for that matter) because by the time Christmas comes around I have had my fill of green and red (I blame store displays putting Christmas decorations up on November 1st).  Fortunately that irritation goes away just about a week before the holiday (because: presents).

When I chose this month's selections, I tried to keep the aversion to cheesy Christmas out of my decision the best that I could.  Let me know what you think and I promise not to be a Grinch when I do my review.

My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories

A collection of 12 stories from contemporary "Goodreads" authors, My True Love Gave to Me is a book that celebrates falling in love with the holiday season.

Featured Authors:

  • Stephanie Perkins (Editor)
  • Holly Black
  • Ally Carter
  • Matt de la Pena
  • Gayle Forman
  • Jenny Han
  • David Levithan
  • Kelly Link
  • Myra McEntire
  • Rainbow Rowell
  • Laini Taylor
  • Kiersten White

Let it Snow: Three Holiday Romances

Let It Snow by John Green plus.jpg

Another contemporary holiday collection, three authors come together to weave three seemingly unrelated stories into a heartfelt celebration of the season.

Featured Authors:

  • John Green
  • Maureen Johnson
  • Lauren Myracle

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

A Christmas Carol has probably been reimagined and retold a thousand times, but nothing can beat the original story from Charles Dickens himself.

A Dog Named Christmas by Greg Kincaid

A Christmas story for dog lovers, A Dog Named Christmas is about a developmentally challenged young man whose generosity and good-will changes the lives of his small hometown forever.

So here we go one more time! This poll expires on December 11th at midnight, so get your votes in this week!  I'll see you in a few days for November's Book Club discussion of Deja Dead by Kathy Reichs.

Disclosure: I do receive compensation for the links provided, but it does not influence my reviews, or the books I choose to read.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.
